Nick Kiekenapp has been an active guitarist in the Twin Cities music scene. Since picking up the guitar at a young age, Nick has worked with dozens of artists throughout the Midwest, performing jazz, rock, blues, folk, country, indie, free improvisation, classical, West African pop, R&B and funk music. He has graced the stages of First Avenue, 7th Street Entry, Turf Club, Dakota Jazz Club, Icehouse Minneapolis, Twin Cities Jazz Festival, Twin Cities Pride Festival and many others.

Nick earned his BA in music from the University of St. Thomas and a MM in jazz studies from Bowling Green State University.

In his free time, Nick enjoys fishing, biking, traveling and hearing live music.

Merle Dean Smith Merle Dean Smith, 51 of Meridian, passed away of natural causes, Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Merle was born on March 31, 1956 in Breckenridge, Minn. to Louis J. Smith and Joan A. (Brill) Smith. He is survived by his wife, Julia E. (Hoover) Smith of 29 years; his sons, Jordan L. Smith and wife Erin (Drew) Smith, Aaron "Smitty" Smith and Autumn Fuzi; his daughter, Sarah E. Smith; one grandson, Tyler J. Smith his pride, joy, and his "buddy"; his mother Joan A. Smith of Nampa, his sister Marlene (Marty) Smith and husband Charles L. Walters of Nampa; his mother-in-law, Delight Brislian and her husband Donal, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis J. Smith, and one brother, Allen L. Smith. A Memorial Service will be at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. S. Nampa, ID 83651, 466-3545.
